Underground drains have been in use for ages. The modern French drain was actually made popular by Henry French, a lawyer from Massachusetts in his book Farm Drainage (1859). While the materials we use are different, the concept and general construction is the same. Today we use French drains and their variations to keep water from collecting near our homes, walkways, driveways, outdoor living areas, or anywhere else water is causing a problem. Due to the heavy rains we can sometimes get here in the Asheville area, rainwater management is a problem we frequently help clients find solutions to. Since our start in 2007 we have constructed many French drains and surface drains, keeping water away from areas where it can cause costly damage.
