We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible profile in research and teaching in the field of dermatology with the focus on inflammatory and autoimmune skin diseases. The professorship also entails a position as a senior physician in the Department of Dermatology and as the director of the Center for Inflammatory Skin Diseases. Applicants with a proven ability to manage clinical operations economically and efficiently are particularly welcome.
We expect the professor to take an active part in teaching and collaborative research (collaborative research centers, research training groups, Interdisciplinary Center for Clinical Research), the priority programs at the Faculty and Uniklinikum Erlangen and in the Deutsches Zentrum Immuntherapie, and the Clinician Scientist programs (e.g. Notice, iImmune). Teaching is predominantly held in German.
Irrespective of whether applying for a W2 or W3 position, successful candidates should demonstrate an excellent academic track record in research and teaching at the highest international standards. They should have substantial research experience abroad and/or international cooperations as well as experience in managing research projects and in raising third-party funding. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree as well as a passion for education and relevant teaching experience are prerequisites. Candidates who are able and willing to teach in both English and German are preferred. The position also requires additional postdoctoral qualifications. These should be in the form of a habilitation (postdoctoral thesis) or academic qualifications. These qualifications may also have been achieved in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (for example as Assistant Professor). Candidates must provide evidence of a license to practice medicine as a specialist for dermatology and venereal diseases. We would also welcome experience in planning and conducting clinical studies as well as in using modern systems therapeutics.
In order to be appointed to a W3 position, candidates are also expected to have a wide research spectrum and international visibility in the area of inflammatory skin diseases, experience in conducting clinical studies, and management and leadership skills.
The successful candidate should become actively involved in administering academic affairs and in developing strategic initiatives. FAU pursues a policy of intense student mentoring and therefore expects its teaching staff to be present during lecture periods.
FAU offers an outstandingly productive research environment as well as a passionate and multi-disciplinary scholarly community within a vibrant institutional network.
In its pursuit of academic excellence, FAU is committed to equality of opportunity and to a proactive and inclusive approach, which supports and encourages all under-represented groups, promotes an inclusive culture, and values diversity.
