To create knowledge networks within and beyond the university is Ruhr-Universität Bochum’s declared aim.

W3 PROFESSORSHIP FOR SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY / DOGMATICS AND ECUMENISM (M/F/D)

The Faculty of Protestant Theology at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum invites applications for the position of a tenured full-time Professor (W3) in Systematic Theology / Dogmatics and Ecumenism
The holder of the position will represent the subject of Systematic Theology / Dogmatics and Ecumenism in research and teaching.
The chair is associated with the task of promoting systematic theology – in particular dogmatics – in interdisciplinary discussions and introducing students to dogmatic and ecumenical topics in teaching. In terms of research, a clear focus is expected on issues of dogmatics and the areas of institutional ecumenism. The professorship includes the management of the faculty’s Ecumenical Institute and a willingness to collaborate with Catholic Theology and the Department of Religious Studies (CERES) as well as the further expansion of international contacts and collaborations is expected. A commitment to the acquisition of third-party funds is required.
The advertised professorship (m/f/d) should initiate and coordinate interdisciplinary research projects both within the faculty and across faculties.
Positive evaluation as a junior professor, habilitation or equivalent academic achievement and evidence of special aptitude are just as much required as the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum and to generally get involved in university processes according to Ruhr-Universität Bochum’s mission statement.
We expect furthermore:
  • strong commitment in teaching
  • readiness to participate in interdisciplinary academic work
  • willingness and proven ability to attract significant third-party funded research projects
  • experience in setting up university research projects and the willingness to play a formative role in the faculty’s international cooperation activities
The Ruhr-Universität Bochum stands for diversity and equal opportunities. For this reason, we favour a working environment composed of heterogeneous teams, and seek to promote the careers of individuals who are underrepresented in our respective professional areas. The Ruhr-Universität Bochum expressly requests job applications from women. In areas in which they are underrepresented they will be given preference in the case of equivalent qualifications with male candidates. Applications from individuals with disabilities are most welcome.
Complete applications (including CV, copies of academic certificates, lists of publications and research funding, list of self-raised third-party funds, teaching record, and a statement of research interests) and a concept with your ideas on future research and teaching for the professorship (max. 2 pages) should be sent by E-Mail to the Dean of the Faculty of Protestant Theology at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, dekanat-ev-theol@ruhr-uni-bochum.de, GA 8/134, Universitätsstraße 150, D-44780 Bochum no later than 02/28/2025.
