Managing directors are high up in a company's pay pyramid. However, there are generally large fluctuations between incomes. According to the web portal , managing directors earn between 鈧�75,523 and 鈧�157,455 per year. The wide range of salaries is mainly due to regional, industry and company-specific factors. However, the negotiation of variable salary components based on personal performance of the managing director and the success of the company is becoming increasingly common. In which sectors do managing directors earn the most?

According to the salary report "Managing Directors 2016" prepared by the personnel and management consultancy Kienbaum Consultants International, the pharmaceutical, automotive and chemicals sectors are the three top industries in terms of managing director salaries. Pharmaceutical companies pay their bosses an average of 鈧�611,000 per year, while in the automotive sector their annual salary is 鈧�574,000 and in the chemical industry 鈧�566,000. In public companies, managing directors in banks and savings banks earn the most. Regardless of the sector, however, earnings are higher in larger companies, correlating with employee numbers and turnover. Where do managing directors in Germany earn the most?

The figure on the payslip also depends significantly on the job location. Management positions in Hesse are therefore the most attractive, paying 鈧�10,134 per month. This is followed by Baden-Wuerttemberg at 鈧�9,671 and Bavaria at 鈧�9,379. In the north of the republic, Hamburg offers the most: In the Hanseatic city, the average monthly income of a managing director is 鈧�9,297. The lowest earnings can be found in the east of Germany. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, for example, a general managing director receives a salary of 鈧�6,665 a month 鈥� the lowest nationwide.
