Full Professor of Human Centered Data Science (salary group W3)
at the Department of Data Science. This is a full-time and permanent position to be filled by the earliest possible starting date.
We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible profile in research and teaching. The successful candidate will also take on a managerial position at Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (IIS).
Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (IIS) is one of the largest institutes of Fraunhofer and renowned all over the world for its research and development in the fields of audio and media technology, in particular audio compression, as well as communications technology, image processing, localization systems, and artificial intelligence.
The Department of Data Science (DDS) is currently being established with the aim of carrying out fundamental research in data science in a dynamic and collaborative environment with agile teams who work on pioneering and interdisciplinary research topics.
Successful candidates should demonstrate an excellent academic track record in research and teaching in the field of human centered data science at the highest international standards. This includes, for example, empirical studies on media interaction and quality assessment as well as data compression of audiovisual communication and media data. Experience in data acquisition by means of subjective and objective evaluation methods and the acquisition and evaluation of psycho-physiological data is desired. Applicants should have substantial research experience abroad and/or international cooperations, as well as experience in managing research projects and in raising third-party funding. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree, as well as a passion for education and relevant teaching experience are prerequisites. Candidates who are able and willing to teach in both English and German are preferred. The position also requires additional postdoctoral qualifications. These should be in the form of a habilitation (postdoctoral thesis) or equivalent academic qualifications. These qualifications may also have been achieved in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (for example as Assistant Professor).
The successful candidate’s research activities must complement existing working groups at FAU, particularly in the context of data science. Collaboration in interdisciplinary research or applications is desired as well as experience in the exploitation and protection of intellectual property. The successful candidate is expected to be involved in developing the Department of Data Science at FAU.
Teaching duties include introductory and advanced lectures and seminars for the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in Data Science (BSc and MSc). Collaboration in other degree programs offered by the Department of Mathematics and Data Science and in orientation events for students studying other subjects is expected.
The successful candidate should demonstrate academic leadership, the ability to support early career researchers and to drive FAU’s strategic agenda. FAU pursues a policy of intense student mentoring and therefore expects its teaching staff to be present during lecture periods.
