Full Professorship (W3) for Infection Resistance

at the Institute for Infection Prevention and Control at the Medical Center – University of Freiburg at the earliest possible date.

The post holder will represent the subject of infection resistance in research and teaching.

Within the existing supra-regional SFB/TRR 359 PILOT, the professorship will promote profile development through basic research on the development of immunological resistance to pathogens using various models (e.g. cross-class animal models). Preferably, the candidate should have experience with various model organisms, including invertebrates, to study the organ-specific development of myeloid immunity. The professorship is intended to strengthen the research portfolio on the question of how the interaction of the tissue environment and gene regulatory networks structures organ immunity. The focus of the institute is on research into the interplay between the microbiome and host immunity and its role in pathogen transmission and control. Close cooperation with the other immunological Collaborative Research Projects (SFB 1160 IMPATH, SFB/TRR 167 NeuroMac and SFB 1479 ONCOESCAPE) and the Cluster of Excellence Centre for Integrative Biological Signalling Studies (CIBSS) is desired. The applicant should have an outstanding scientific track record in the development of cellular innate immunity. Successful acquisition of qualified third-party funding under own responsibility is expected.

Prerequisites for the employment of Professors are a university degree, an outstanding dissertation in biology, molecular medicine, human medicine or similar disciplines and an excellent publication record. Substantial achievements and experience in academic research and teaching, at the level of a Habilitation according to the German academic system, are expected.

The prerequisite for filling the professorship is that the person to be appointed has acquired funding for the W3 position for several years in a highly competitive third-party funding program (e.g. DFG Heisenberg program) or a comparable funding format.

In accordance with § 50 paragraph 2 of the State Law for Higher Education (LHG) the position is initially limited according to the funding guidelines.

The University of Freiburg’s human resources policy is oriented toward the principles of equal opportunity and diversity. The university is committed to the goal of creating a family-friendly university. We are particularly pleased to receive applications from women for the position advertised here. Applicants with disabilities (Schwerbehinderte Menschen) will be given preferential consideration in case of equal qualification.
