The Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF) analyses the causes of international and intrastate conflicts. As one of the leading peace research institutes in Europe, we combine interdisciplinary basic research with the communication of research results to the public, the media and policymakers. Since 2009, the PRIF has been a member of the Leibniz Association, a national umbrella organization of outstanding non-university research institutes in Germany. PRIF is headquartered in Frankfurt and has a branch office in Berlin. More than 100 employees from research, administration and science communication contribute to PRIF's success.

In association with the German Federal Foreign Office, we are looking for a new colleague to join our team as soon as possible:

One Researcher (Postdoc) (m/f/d) in full-time, in the Research Group Science for Nuclear Diplomacy, in Salary Group 13 TV-H, until the 31.12.2027 (acc. to. WissZeitVG**).

Your responsibilities include:
  • Research within the Science for Nuclear Diplomacy group in the field of nuclear non-proliferation, arms control and/or disarmament ();
  • Knowledge transfer to the public and policymakers as well as to national and international organizations (e.g. through events and policy papers);
  • Participation in the Cluster for Natural and Technical Science Arms Control Research, in which the research group is located ();
  • Participation in PRIF’s bodies of self-administration. Central committees communicate in English.
As applicant, you should fulfill the following requirements:
  • A doctorate in physics, political science or another relevant discipline;
  • Scientific interest in the areas of: development of novel verification techniques, analysis of proliferation potentials of advanced nuclear technologies, or the role of delivery systems for nuclear weapons;
  • Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration to contribute to global security;
  • Willingness to work in an international team of researchers;
  • Good spoken and written command of English;
  • For applicants with a scientific/technical background: programming experience and knowledge in a selection of the following fields: nuclear physics or engineering, modeling and simulation methods, data analysis, machine learning;
  • For applicants with a social science background: knowledge of nuclear non-proliferation, arms control and/or disarmament policy and a willingness to familiarize themselves with technical issues.
