Postdoctoral Position in Computational Social Science (fulltime, E 13 TV-L)


Reference no.: 2025/060. The start date is May 1st, 2025 or by agreement. The position is available for two years. In principle, this position can be divided into two part-time positions.

The University of Konstanz is one of eleven Universities of Excellence in Germany. Since 2007 it has been successful in the German Excellence Initiative and its follow-up programme, the Excellence Strategy.
The position is available as part of the project “Dynamics of Mass Protest”. The project studies political protest using social media images and it is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The successful applicant will be involved in collecting images from social media data, processing them with computer vision tools, and conducting research within the project’s framework. The working language is English.
Your Responsibilities
  • Development and extension of a data collection on political protest
  • Analysis of social media images using computer vision
  • Design, analysis, and presentation of research project and results
Your Competencies
  • PhD in Political Science, Computer Science or a related discipline. A strong research background in computational social science
  • Solid training in programming (Python) and statistics (R)
  • Experience with automated image processing and computer vision
  • Strong written and oral communications skills in English
