At the Faculty of Psychology, Institute of General Psychology, Biopsychology and Methods of Psychology, the Chair of Cognitive Computational Neuroscience offers a project position asResearch Associate (m/w/d)
starting July 1 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is limited until October 31, 2027 with the option of extension in further projects. The period of employment is governed by 搂 2 (2) Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG).
The candidate will work on the DFG-funded project "Neurocomputational mechanisms for approximate decision-making through forward planning and state abstraction." The project investigates how humans learn goal-directed behavior in complex tasks. To achieve this, mathematical and neurocognitive models will be developed to analyze experimental data and generate predictions.

Your tasks:
- develop and implement mathematical models to describe learning and decision-making processes
- apply these models to experimental data (e.g., behavioral experiments, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data)
- collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team of modelers and experimental neuroscientists
- opportunity to design and conduct experiments
- publish research findings in scientific journals
- university degree (M.Sc. or Diplom) in physics, computer science, mathematics, or a related field with a strong quantitative focus
- proficiency in programming, particularly in Python
- interest in cognitive neuroscience and the modeling of cognitive processes
- experience with probabilistic models or probabilistic programming (e.g., PyMC, Stan, Pyro) is desirable
- experience in modeling cognitive neuroscience data or analyzing experimental data is advantageous
