The Faculty of Humanities (Geistes- und Kulturwissenschaften) invites applications for the position of a
University Professor (m/f/x) of Arabic Studies
as a fully tenured civil servant to be filled as of the 2025/26 winter semester. Candidates are required to cover the field of Arabic Studies in full width, with due regard to the modern period. In research, a focus on Arabic literature is desirable. Specializations in History or Cultural Studies are also possible. Apart from active command of Modern Standard Arabic and at least one regional colloquial variant, research experience in the Arab World is expected. Experience in the acquisition and implementation of third-party funded research projects as well as the active willingness to participate in academic centers and interdisciplinary programs are required. Participation in the bachelor’s degree program “Islamischer Orient” (Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies) and management of the master’s degree program “Arabistik” (Arabic Studies) are part of the official duties, as well as the participation in the development of new degree programs and relevant doctoral programs. In addition to this, the successful candidate is expected to contribute to academic self-government and international cooperation and exchange programs. The relevant qualifications consist of a completed academic degree, pedagogical aptitude, and a particular talent for academic work generally substantiated by the excellent qualification of the candidate’s doctoral degree and, in addition to this, further academic credentials. These must be proven by a habilitation or equivalent academic qualification which may also have been obtained within the scope of an assistant professorship. We welcome candidates with disabilities.
