The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, Physics, Geography invites applications for a
W2 Professorship in Experimental Physics with a focus on Space Physics
as of the earliest possible date. Reference is made to 搂 67 Para. 7 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) and to the conditions of employment based on 搂 68 HessHG. Proficient knowledge of German is expected.Duties:
You represent the subject of experimental physics in research and teaching in its whole scope. You should have a proven track record of successful research in experimental space physics, for example in the fields of radiation hardness or electromagnetic compatibility of components and systems, electronics for space applications or new miniaturized chemical propulsion concepts. Alternatively, your research should focus on laser applications/remote sensing in space or experiments in space, such as cubesats or ISS-based projects, or sustainable space concepts.
You will develop a productive and strong externally funded research program and strengthen collaborative research with the existing professorships at Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) within the accent area 鈥淧hysics and Technology for Space Applications- and within the campus research focus 鈥淪pace Applications- of the Research Campus of Central Hessen (FCMH). A commitment within the area of potential 鈥淢aterial and Energy (Focus: storage materials)- is also desired.
The professorship is expected to actively participate in the transfer activities of the Institute of Experimental Physics I at JLU, e.g., by contributing to the proposed ERDF innovation laboratory 鈥淧rocess Diagnostics-.
Regarding teaching, the professorship will be involved in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs covered by the department of physics. These activities will focus on teaching in the consecutive Bachelor's and Master's degree program 鈥淧hysics and Technology for Space Applications- and include continuously developing its curriculum. Gender equality and anti-discrimination aspects are to be included in teaching through gender-differentiated, didactically underpinned knowledge transfer. Participation in collaborations with international partners and your involvement in the Giessen Graduate Center for Natural Sciences and Psychology (GGN) is expected, as is your involvement in academic self-administration.
Requirements:
A completed university degree, an outstanding doctorate, and additional academic achievements (proven, for example, by a habilitation, a junior research group leadership or a leading position within a research institute) are required. In addition, relevant peer-reviewed publications or patents in the field of space physics are required. Scientific expertise in at least one field of space physics is also required. Moreover, a focus on a further related topic in the field of space physics is desired.
You should have relevant teaching experience in Bachelor's or Master's degree programs, as evidenced by a teaching concept and/or positive course evaluations. Pedagogical aptitude is required.
You should have proven success in the independent acquisition of external funding and have contacts in the space industry or to relevant research institutions, such as the German Aerospace Center (DLR).
In case the candidate exceeds the basic age limit of 50 years, a civil servant appointment under 搂 66 Para. 3 sentences 2 and 3 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) in conjunction with 搂 11 Hessian Career Regulation (HLVO) requires a specific functional interest.
The JLU aims to employ more women in academic research. We therefore particularly encourage female candidates to apply. JLU also pursues the goal at faculty leadership level of increased competence in dealing with gender and family-related issues. JLU is regarded as a family-friendly university. Applicants with children are very welcome. Applications from disabled people of equal aptitude will be given preference.
We strongly recommend candidates to refer to our on application procedures.
