W2 Professorship in Psychiatry with a focus on Neurostimulation
as of the earliest possible date. Reference is made to § 67 Para. 7 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG), the non-tariff terms of employment apply, and to the conditions of employment based on § 68 HessHG. Proficient knowledge of German is expected.
Duties:
The professorship involves leading a research group within the JLU Centre for Psychiatry and being involved in the LOEWE Centre “DYNAMIC-. Your scientific work should focus particularly on research into non-invasive brain stimulation as a therapeutic method for mental illnesses. With innovative methodological approaches, integrating network aspects or biomarkers, and modulating brain activity with non-invasive brain stimulation, such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) or transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS), you will actively participate in existing research networks within the faculty and develop them further. Close cooperation within the LOEWE Centre “DYNAMIC- is also expected.
You should actively participate in existing research networks, independently acquire research projects (preferably from the DFG, the BMBF and/or the EU), and participate in DFG joint projects as well as in further national and international networks. This also includes involvement in future research networks. Your cooperation in established structures for the promotion of young scientists and clinicians, such as the Giessen Graduate Centre for the Life Sciences (GGL), the structured doctoral programme (JLU TRAINEE), the clinician scientist programme (JLU CAREER) and the focus curriculum (SPC) “Mind and Brain-, is expected.
Additionally, you actively participate in the focus area “Mechanisms of perception and adaptation- and in the accent area “Experimental and applied neuroscience-.
The universities of Giessen and Marburg and the University of Applied Sciences in Central Hessen are working together in a research alliance (Research Campus of Central Hessen) as a structured cooperation based on coordinated priorities. It is expected that the applicant shows cooperativeness to university and department-wide collaborative projects. In particular, cross university/hospital patient-oriented clinical research and the participation in joint clinical studies is expected.
The main task in the area of teaching is leading the design of and participation in curricular teaching in the subject of psychiatry and psychotherapy in the human medicine degree program. This includes in particular giving lectures in the subject of psychiatry, holding seminars and being involved in the elective subject of psychiatry and psychotherapy. In the future, you will also be expected to work within the SPC “Mind and Brain-.
The integration of gender aspects in research and teaching is explicitly desired.
The professorship also includes a senior physician position in the Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy. All tasks associated with the professorship in patient care are regulated by the UKGM.
Requirements:
You should be nationally and internationally recognized in your field of research and have, furthermore, extensive experience in the scientific and clinical application of non-invasive brain stimulation techniques for mental illnesses.
Prerequisites for the position include a successfully completed university education in medicine, the ability to scientific work for the fulfilment of the tasks according to § 67 Para. 1 HessHG, usually proven by an outstanding doctorate, and excellent additional academic achievements (e.g. habilitation or relevant, internationally recognized publications). You should demonstrate success in the independent acquisition of external funding. Prerequisite is a specialist certification in psychiatry and psychotherapy. Furthermore, relevant experience in teaching and the proof of a special pedagogical aptitude as a qualification to represent the specialist field in academic teaching and doctoral training with great commitment and in its full scope are required.
