The Medical Faculty Mannheim of Heidelberg University offers the position of a
Full Professorship (W3) for “Dermatology and Venereology” (f/m/d)
to be filled as of 01.10.2027.The professorship will represent the subject of dermatology and venereology in its entire breadth in research, teaching and patient care. Due to the planned formation of an alliance between the University Medical Centers in Mannheim and Heidelberg, a complementary structure of specializations is desired at both locations when filling W3 professorships with a clinic management function. In patient care, the position holder will ensure the highest level of inpatient and outpatient care for patients with the complete spectrum of dermatological diseases. The successful candidate will be appointed Director of the Department for Dermatology, Venereology and Allergology Mannheim at the University Medical Center Mannheim. The applicant is expected to continue and further expand the Department for Dermatology, Venereology and Allergology Mannheim as a regionally and nationally attractive, competitive and successful institution. In particular, close cooperation with the Institute of Pathology, the Interdisciplinary Vascular Centre Mannheim (IGZ), the Medical Clinics, the Mannheim Cancer Center (MCC) and the DKFZ-Hector Cancer Institute, the Mannheim Center for Inflammation Medicine (MaCIM), which is currently being founded, and the other clinics at the University Medical Center Mannheim is expected.
In research, the applicant should have international visibility in at least one central area of dermatology, venereology and allergology and be recognized through publications, successful acquisition and implementation of third-party funded projects and through international cooperation. Active participation in the faculty research focus areas ‘Vascular Biology and Medicine / Mannheim Comprehensive Angioscience Campus’, ‘Inflammation Medicine, Immunology and Immunotherapy / Mannheim Comprehensive Inflammation Campus’ or ‘Oncology / Mannheim Comprehensive Tumour Campus’ is particularly desirable. The candidate should be actively involved in the Faculty's research networks such as the CRC 1366 ‘Vascular Control of Organ Function’ or the Research Training Group RTG 2727 ‘Innate Immune Checkpoints in Cancer and Tissue Damage’. Active, formative collaboration in the European Centre for Angioscience (ECAS) is just as desirable as in the Mannheim Institute for Innate Immunoscience (MI3). Collaboration also in other key research areas of the faculty is welcomed. In teaching, the assumption of teaching responsibility and intensive involvement in the further development of teaching in dermatology and venereology within the framework of the MaReCuM, the restructured modular medical curriculum of the faculty, is expected.
Prerequisites for application are a completed university degree, a qualified doctorate and adequate teaching experience. In accordance with Article 47, paragraph 2 of the Higher Education Law of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg a Habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship or equivalent scientific qualifications are additional requirements. Recognition as a specialist in skin and venereal diseases is a prerequisite for appointment; additional training is desirable. Internationally visible, excellent achievements in research, teaching and patient care, relevant teaching experience, successful acquisition of third-party funding and didactic competence are expected, as well as cooperation and leadership skills and commitment to academic self-administration.
The professorship is a permanent position. Professors who are responsible for patient care at a university hospital are generally employed permanently under private law in accordance with § 49 (2a) of the Higher Education Law of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg. The holder of the position fulfils tasks in patient care at the University Medical Center Mannheim. The professorship is associated with the management of the Department for Dermatology, Venereology and Allergology at the University Medical Center Mannheim. A separate contract will be concluded with Universitätsklinikum Mannheim GmbH.
