The Department of Engineering & Industrial Design has a particularly strong research focus together with an interdisciplinary and practical orientation and offers a broad spectrum of undergraduate Bachelor’s and consecutive Master's study programmes.

Your new challenge

• You will be responsible for teaching, continuing education and research with a specific application orientation in the following subject areas:
  • Machine Components / Machine Construction
• You will teach methods and tools for developing, manufacturing and testing machine components and use the potential of simulation and/or artificial intelligence methods to analyse, expand and optimise functionalities. On the courses on the Bachelor’s and Master's degree programmes offered by the engineering departments, it will be especially important for you to convey the content in an application-oriented way.
• You will be committed to strengthening the specialist profile of the Department, will work on an interdisciplinary basis in the context of cross-departmental cooperation predominantly on the Magdeburg campus and will be involved in the development of the range of international programmes offered.
• We expect you to successfully develop areas of research emphasis in the fields of machine components and machine construction and, if the conditions are met, to participate in our Doctoral Centre for Environment and Technology. You will be supported in this by a research-friendly environment.
• It goes without saying that you will be committed to technology and knowledge transfer and cooperation with regional and national stakeholders as well as to contributing to the development of the university.
• Moreover, it is important to us that you be involved in academic self-governance (official language German).

What you offer

You are a good fit for us if you are enthusiastic about teaching and research activities and you meet the conditions of appointment as set out in § 35 of the Saxony-Anhalt Higher Education Act. For the advertised professorship, these criteria are as follows:

• You will have successfully completed a university degree, preferably in the field of Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• You will have a particular aptitude for scientific work, which will generally be evidenced by a high-quality doctorate in the field of Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• You will have pedagogic experience of working in universities or comparable teaching situations. You will be familiar with modern teaching methods in both face-to-face and online formats.
• You will be able to demonstrate particular achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods in at least two of the following areas:
  
  • Fatigue strength
  • Operating equipment construction
  • Sealing technology
  • Finite-element methods
  • Tribology

  Publications in the area of the appointment, experience in the acquisition of third-party funds and the management of research projects as well as international experience are all highly desirable.

• You will have accomplished these in professional practice of at least three years’ duration outside of the higher education sector.
• You will have both German and English language skills that enable you to communicate confidently in teaching and research and in everyday life at a German-speaking university.
• Your profile will be completed by the ability to communicate confidently, empathy, leadership experience and team skills.
