The Department of Engineering & Industrial Design has a particularly strong research focus together with an interdisciplinary and practical orientation and offers a broad spectrum of undergraduate Bachelor鈥檚 and consecutive Master's study programmes.

Your new challenge

You will be responsible for teaching, continuing education and research with a specific application orientation in the following subject areas:
- Social science technology research
- Interdisciplinary technology research
The focus lies on the social prerequisites for technological development and the implications of technical innovations for society. In the courses on the Bachelor鈥檚 and Master's degree programmes in 鈥淗uman-Technology Interaction鈥� and 鈥淚nterdisciplinary Engineering Sciences鈥� as well as other programmes, it will be essential for you to convey the importance of the social relationships to technical developments in an application-oriented way.
You will be committed to strengthening the specialist profile of the Department, will work on an interdisciplinary basis in the context of cross-departmental cooperation predominantly on the Magdeburg campus and will be involved in the development of the range of international programmes offered.
We expect you to successfully develop areas of research emphasis in the field of human-technology interaction (HTI) and, if the conditions are met, to participate in our Doctoral Centre for Social, Health and Economic Sciences.. You will be supported in this by a research-friendly environment.
It goes without saying that you will be committed to technology and knowledge transfer and cooperation with regional and national stakeholders as well as to contributing to the development of the university.
Moreover, it is important to us that you be involved in academic self-governance (official language German)

What you offer

You are a good fit for us if you are enthusiastic about teaching and research activities and you meet the conditions of appointment as set out in 搂 35 of the Saxony-Anhalt Higher Education Act. For the advertised professorship, these criteria are as follows:

You will have successfully completed a university degree in social science or humanities subject.
You will have a particular aptitude for scientific work, which will generally be evidenced by a high-quality doctorate in the field of technology research, sociotechnology or a related social science or humanities discipline.
You will have pedagogic experience of working in universities or comparable teaching situations. You will be familiar with modern teaching methods in both face-to-face and online formats.
You will be able to demonstrate particular achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods in at least two of the following areas:
- user-centred (participatory) technology development
- trans-disciplinary methods in multi-professional teams
- subject areas of health, prevention and old age/ageing
Ideally you will have experience in qualitative research methods. Publications in the area of the appointment, experience in the acquisition of third-party funds and the management of research projects as well as international experience all are highly desirable.
You will have accomplished these in professional practice of at least three years鈥� duration outside of the higher education sector.
You will have both German and English language skills that enable you to communicate confidently in teaching and research and in everyday life at a German-speaking university.
Your profile will be completed by the ability to communicate confidently, empathy, leadership experience and team skills.

The face-to-face interviews are planned for approximately 3 months after the application deadline. Provided that the relevant requirements are met (assuming, among other things, that the candidate is under the age of 52) the appointee will be granted temporary civil servant status, otherwise they will be employed on the basis of a temporary employment relationship under private law. As we consider face-to-face teaching and the integration of the university in the region to be very important, we assume that in order to meet the requirements of the professorship you will primarily be based in the region.
