W3 PROFESSORSHIP FOR STEEL AND LIGHTWEIGHT STRUCTURES (M/F/D)

The Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Ruhr-Universit盲t Bochum invites applications for the position of a Professor (W3) in Steel and Lightweight Structures commencing as soon as possible. We are looking for a personality with a scientifically outstanding track record and a strong commitment to fundamental research, who publishes with high international visibility and knows how to inspire students and employees. Practical professional experience and a good network in the construction practice of structural engineering are of advantage. The future holder of the position should expand the existing areas of specific expertise at the department and actively develop them further. Outstanding achievements in several of the following areas are preferred:

• Sustainable and circular construction methods (e.g. modular construction, characterisation of aged structures, building rehabilitation)
• Innovative connection technologies
• Advanced materials and manufacturing (e.g. high-performance materials, composite materials, additive manufacturing, automation and robotics)
• Wind-induced and/or thermal effects on components and structures (e.g. aerodynamics in construction, steel fire protection)
• Wind energy constructions on-/offshore

The KIB/KON experimental laboratory hall of the department is available for experimental research and is extensively equipped for large-scale experiments including a modular furnace. Further, a boundary-layer wind tunnel for investigations into the aerodynamics of buildings is available. Positive evaluation as a junior professor, habilitation or equivalent academic achievement and evidence of special aptitude are just as much required as the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of the Ruhr University Bochum and to generally get involved in university processes according to Ruhr University Bochum鈥檚 mission statement. The candidate has to meet the appointment requirements according to section 36 ff. Hochschulgesetz NW. We expect furthermore:

• strong commitment in teaching including, after an appropriate period of time, participation in German-language courses of the faculty;
• readiness to participate in interdisciplinary research;
• willingness and proven ability to attract significant third-party funded research projects and to participate in research consortia;
• leadership experience.
